    History

Regarding the necessity of observing health, safety, and environmental regulations in the area of nanotechnology, the proposal for creation of Iran Nano Safety Network (INSN) was raised by Nanotechnology Standardization Committee of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC) in early 2011. The goal of this network is to provide an appropriate environment for interested researchers and relevant institutions in the country to join the network with the aim of creating convergence in their activities in the context of specific plans managed by the network for the development of standards, guidelines, and regulations for safety and environmental issues of nanotechnology. Therefore, in a mid-term prospect, INSN will be able to play an important role in the safe development of nanotechnology and its products.

By early 2012, initial studies were completed which involved identifying the experts and active institutions in this field, designing and drafting the statute, forming the founding and then strategic council and discussing the overall plans as well as the short-term, mid-term and long-term objectives of the network.

Since summer 2012, this network has officially started its operation and is currently active in the areas of education, enactment of standards and regulations, and establishment of necessary infrastructures in the field of nanotechnology.
